Common in woods, grassy and heathy places Diameter of total flowerhead c 3-7 cm, individual flowers c 3 mm across ID: Leaves have linear segments; lower bracts of umbel linear and undivided, or absent. Other features: Shorter than most umbellifers, flowers May-June. Umbels often have no lower bracts, sometimes 1 or 2; upper bracts fewer than 5. Young flowering stems unfold in characteristic twisted way as shown on left.
