Frequent on bare ground, especially around farmyards and on the inner edge of road verges, but much confused with other species such as P arenastrum.

Flower diameter c 2 mm

ID: Fruit no longer than 3.5 mm and not protruding from flower.  Leaves on main stem much larger than those on flowering branches.  Leaf-stalks not or hardly longer than their stipules (ochreae).

Other features: Upright or semi-upright, unlike Ray's Knotgrass.  Nut has three equal sides, not two broad and one narrow as in P arenastrum.
