Rare: roadsides and similar places, more likely in the south of the area. Flower c 18-24 mm long ID: Flowers white, consisting of two lips with a wide-open "mouth" between them, the upper lip hooded and hairy, the lower broad and flat, with inconspicuous side lobes higher up. Do not confuse with white forms of Hemp-nettle, which have the lower lip divided into 3 conspicuous lobes (see bottom picture on Common Hemp-nettle page) and their leaves and stems are bristly to feel. Other features: Leaves rather like Stinging Nettle in appearance, but soft and not stinging. Flowers in whorls at the leaf-nodes, usually found at all nodes except those close to the top or bottom of the stem. Calyx with 5 long teeth. |
