Common on roadside banks and dry places on moorland.

Height c 25-60 cm.  Flower diameter c 12-18 mm.

ID: Stems round, not square, not with raised lines, not hairy or creeping or very thin.

Other features: Leaves almost clasping stem at base, and with edges slightly downturned, rather glaucous and sometimes reddish on one or both sides, with translucent gland-dots.  Petals have  black gland-dots on margins and sometimes reddish markings on surface, especially on underside.  Sepals also fringed with black dots.
