Rare, in woods and lowland shady places.

Stems c 50-150 cm tall.  Spikelets c 10-18 mm long (ex awns), lemmas c 6-9 mm long plus awn c 11-18 mm long.

ID: Awn much longer than the lemma (measurements above), leaves have auricles which overlap round other side of stem.

Other features: Stem nodes deep purple.  Panicles and leaves drooping.  c 3-8 florets per spikelet.
