Very common in grassland, on roadsides, at woodland edges, among rough vegetation and in lawns. Spikelets 5-9 mm long, each containing about 4 flowers. ID: Unmistakable. The way the lowest flowering branch sticks out on its own gives the plant its name. Other features: Very fast growing; after strimming an area of grass, the tufts of this grass will be an inch or two taller than all the others within a couple of days. |
