Occasional on damp ground near sea, especially on cliffs.

Individual flowerheads 2-5 mm across, clustered into panicles c 15 cm across.  Stems 30-120 cm tall.

ID: Flowers purple, the individual composite-type flowerheads containing c 5-6 disk florets and no ray florets.

Other features: Leaves palmate with c 3 leaflets (uppermost leaves with fewer, basal leaves with more).  Leaves in opposite pairs, leaflets well-toothed and dotted with glands.  A long white style protrudes from each of the tubular disk florets.
