Rare in alkaline grassland

Flowerhead diameter c 1.5-3 cm

ID: No ray florets but straw-coloured inner bracts spread out like ray florets.  Disk florets yellow.

Other features: Leaves spiny with wavy margins.  Leaves and outer bracts are green or purplish, they are withered in plant in picture on left.  Flowers look similar after plant has withered to how they do in their prime.
